HDPE shrinking muffs are widely used in preinsulated pipelines against the corrosion and for mechanical protection of the jointing area between contiguous pipes where, due to the cut back of the polyethylene casing, the insulation should be done on site after the welding of the inner steel pipes.

Cross-linked muffs made of cross-linked polyethylene are used wherever particularly high quality levels are required either by the significance of the pipeline or design choices.
Due to the raw material of which they are made cross-linked muffs show a shrinking quality and consequently a tightening strength much higher than usual HDPE muffs can guarantee performing therefore well beyond the requirements stated by the reference standard EN 489.
